Day three New York City Wine and Food Festival had me tuckered out; not to point the finger but I'm pretty sure the meatballs and burgers had something to do with my perma-food coma state. But anyone who knows me well knows I would never, ever say "no" to a taco, let alone 30 different versions of my favorite Mexican dish. Last night, Bobby Flay hosted the Tacos & Tequila showdown at the 82 Mercer (917-639-5850) event space and despite food fatigue, I was there with bells on.
Apparently, I'm not the only one who harbors an overwhelming love of tacos; with a packed house at hand, renown restaurants like La Esquina, Scarpetta, Kin Shop, and Buddakan worked hard to give people what they came for: tacos, tacos, tacos, and more tacos. I made it to the halfway point (15 tacos, yo!) before the crowd was at an all-time shoulder-to-shoulder gridlock high and my ability to stomach any more food was at an all-time low. Here are my taco takeaways from the evening — let's just say your next Mexican food craving should be a cinch.
