NYC Songs For Summer Playlists
PopSugar NYC Playlist: Summer in the City Soundtrack
Every outing needs its own soundtrack, even if it's just the one playing on loop in your head. Let this weekend be filled with New York-inspired tunes as you catch some rays at Central Park, stoop in the sun, throw an impromptu Summer cocktail party, or enjoy a salty pimp from the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck.
Don't forget Sunday marks the first day that New York's recently passed law legalizing gay marriage goes into effect. So throw on some NYC tunes, and let the beat rock. This is musical consumption for the city dweller's soul. Have a New York-inspired song to add? Leave a comment below.
- Nico's "Chelsea Girls"
- LCD Soundsystem's "New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down"
- Wu Tang Clan's "C.R.E.A.M."

- Duke Ellington's "Harlem"
- Bright Eyes's "Lua"
- Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Our Time"
- Mos Def's "Brooklyn"
- Beastie Boys' "An Open Letter to New York"
- Rufus Wainwright's "14th Street"
- Jay-Z and Alicia Keys's "Empire State of Mind"
- Death Cab For Cutie's "Coney Island"
- Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York"

Post a CommentHA, "Jenny From the Block." If you want to go old-school, I suggest "I Happen to Like New York," which plays in the opening credits of Woody Allen's Manhattan Murder Mystery.
Great list! I'll definitely be updating my iPod with a few of these. My favorite quintessential NYC summer song is The Lovin' Spoonful's "Summer in the City."
