Marisa Tom | May 27, 2011 8:35 amIt's iced coffee weather officially! Can I get an "amen"? I can only speak for myself — but I hope you'll agree — that iced coffee, unlike other cold brews, quickly becomes a New York hydration-meets-caffeination Summer lifeline.Read More
Marisa Tom | May 25, 2011 5:09 pmYou've got the glow. Now what to pack for your Memorial Day weekend on-the-go plans? Stock up on the travel essentials — a weekender bag, sunnies, face moisturizer, and nail polishes — that have a New York edge.Read More
Marisa Tom | May 24, 2011 8:35 amHere we are approaching Memorial Day weekend and we're still cursed with dreary cold weather, pasty skin, and dreams of phantom BBQs. It's time to take matters into our own hands and, in this case, that means we have to fake it. For a sun-kissed glow that will last you through the weekend and will — let's be honest — look lovely in all the Memorial Day weekend albums bound to pop up on Facebook, get a flawless spray tan sure to fool even the most critical sun-worshiper's eye.Read More
Marisa Tom | May 18, 2011 1:18 pmSummer signifies the onslaught of a lot of things: weekends away from the city, outdoor eating and drinking, humidity meltdowns, Summer Fridays, makeshift BBQs, minimal amount of clothes being worn, and so on. For me, and hopefully you'll agree, the Summer perk that resonates most soundly is the insanely good lineup of concerts at the ready. It's like being a kid in a music candy store — take your pick of venue, musical artist, and day.Read More
Marisa Tom | May 12, 2011 8:55 amIf there's one thing that Winter left me with — besides a bitter dislike of the cold — it's unforgivably pasty skin. My gaunt glow is edging too close to that of The Addams Family pallor, and if you're currently visualizing that, it's pretty scary. It's high time I give my pale complexion a boost of sunshine and a dose of vitamin D the old-fashioned way.Read More
Marisa Tom | May 11, 2011 2:01 pmPinch me. Good Morning America's just-announced Summer concert series lineup is too good to be true. For the third year in a row, GMA has arranged for a Summer-long music fest of high-profile recording artists to grace the stage at Central Park's Rumsey Playfield (enter at 69th Street and Fifth Avenue).Read More
Marisa Tom | April 26, 2011 8:55 amMaybe all that wishing and hoping for Spring-y and Summer-y things got us somewhere? Whatever got through to Mother Nature, I'm positively euphoric about the warmer temps, humid breeze, and happy faces I'm seeing on the street. One thing's for sure: we must put our best foot forward to welcome Spring.Read More
Marisa Tom | April 21, 2011 8:50 amAs a New Yorker, talking about, complaining about, and concerning myself with the weather is a part of who I am. And now that we're well into "Spring" but have yet to experience a real warm spell that lasts more than 48 hours, I've made the executive decision to go ahead and get psyched for Summer. Technically, June 21 marks the first day of Summer, but that's no big deal when you consider that New York's track record for keeping in line with the seasons isn't exactly a good one.Read More
Marisa Tom | April 12, 2011 8:40 amYou read right. Unlike the colorful Jeff Koons stainless steel trio: balloon dog, sacred heart, and coloring book; Roxie Paine's giant Maelstrom sculpture that looked like a larger than life silver tree; or this past year's elevated bamboo jungle, created by identical twin artists Mike and Doug Starn, the Met Museum (1000 Fifth Ave., 212-535-7710) is taking it down a notch (or two) where its rooftop antics are concerned.
Not to diminish the talents of British artist Anthony Caro, who will bring his steel sculptures to the Upper East Side skyline as of April 26, but one of the exciting things about the Met during the Summer months is its rooftop installation.Read More
Marisa Tom | March 25, 2011 12:34 pmWhat exactly is parsley seed skin care? I'm not quite sure yet, but soon, we'll all find out. Australia's beauty brand obsession Aesop out of Melbourne is making its maiden standalone store voyage to our city shores this Summer.Read More
